Dutch artist Lisette Overweel-Monshouwer was born in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. She studied Law in Rotterdam and worked as a senior court registrar for 18 years. During this period she started to paint and continued in the following years, taking up art studies in Holland (Art Academy Utrecht and courses at Barteljee Studio) and Germany (Kunsthochschule Dresden).

Her work inspired her to do a series of abstract paintings referring to the daily life in courts. These acrylics can now be found on display in a lot of law firms, court offices and home studios. After numerous shows all over the Netherlands with this collection, the paintings are now on permanent exhibit in the Courts of Dordrecht, Rotterdam, Breda and Maastricht. Frequently the artist is asked to create a painting in this theme for a new office or special occasion. Images of these paintings can also be found in several law magazines and books.

After moving to Germany with her family, Lisette started to paint in other original styles and subjects. These include dancers, sport figures, nature, animals and dogs, inspired by her puppy Zsa-Zsa. Part of the latter collection has been on exhibit in several locations and in Gallery Bohner, Mannheim, Germany. Her dancer and sport figures paintings have been on exhibit in Gallery Cielo Bella in Sedona, Arizona, and several other shows (New York City, New Rochelle, NY) and sport facilities.

Lisette now lives in the United States again and continues to paint on a daily basis. She developed new (mixed media) techniques, a real asset to her colorful paintings. She was invited to join a lot of shows in Rye, White Plains, Greenwich, Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and two shows in New York City, on Broadway and Times Square, organized by Dacia Gallery. In the meantime she won several awards for her colorful and original paintings.

Inspired by her frequent city walks in New York City, she made a whole new series of paintings under the title: Stars & Stripes. These have been on display in the Rye Art Center in Rye, New York, and at the Art to the Avenue event in Greenwich. Recently she got two awards for these paintings at the online Gallery Light Space & Time.

At this moment Lisette is experimenting with her nature inspired mixed media epoxy paintings.

Besides creating art for her own collection, Lisette loves to make paintings on request to fit in your home or office. Please contact the artist for more information.
